Write a Powerful Profile for Maximum Impact

Did you know that as an NEB member, you can publish a Professional Profile on the NEB web site? If you haven’t posted your profile yet, consider doing so soon. If you have already, give it another look to make sure it’s current.

Why post a profile? Because when prospects come to our site to verify your background, they can view two documents: your NEB Certificate of Approval and your Professional Profile. Once they confirm your approval status by viewing your Certificate, they will also want to learn more about you. If you don’t post a profile, you will lose an opportunity to make a positive impression with prospects.

Creating a profile is mechanically easy to do. All you do is fill out an online form, attach your photo, and you’re done. The harder part is coming up with the language to describe your business. Here are some pointers to get you started.

In the Overview section, try to answer four questions:

  • What do you do?
  • What types of clients do you serve?
  • What special knowledge do you have?
  • Are you trustworthy?

Try to keep your answer brief, objective, and highly professional. In other words, stick to the point. Also, avoid flowery and overly self-promotional language. However, be sure to specifically define the results you achieve for clients.

In the Education section, highlight your college education first, starting with undergraduate degrees and then graduate degrees. Include special honors and activities that reflect well upon you. Also review your current industry designations and other technical training you’ve completed.

Under Associations, be sure to highlight your professional affiliations, including your NEB membership.

Finally, under References, include several current clients who are willing to provide a testimonial on your behalf. If you are uncomfortable with this, simply state you will provide references upon request.

Remember, as an NEB member, you have many opportunities to use your NEB approval status to grow your business. Posting your Professional Profile may well be the most powerful tool available for communicating your ethical commitment to prospects and clients.
